“You’re probably wondering why only a few of you were invited to today’s session,” the Instructor said. She looked around the room at the students paired off in groups of two at three tables. In front of each student and herself sat something the size of a breadbox covered with a sheet. “Today’s training is going to be advanced. Only those with exceptional psychokinetic skills have been asked to participate. The only students who can even know about this class are those in the room right now. Do you understand?”
“Yes,” some of the students answered.
The Instructor raised an eyebrow.
“Yes,” the class answered in unison.
“Good, in addition, any of you caught ‘practicing’ today’s techniques on your fellow students will be subject to expulsion or worse.”
“What’s worse?” Keith asked his tablemate Dave.
“Explosion,” answered Dave.
“Quiet.” The Instructor removed her sheet, revealing a scurrying rat in a steel cage. “Today’s lesson is about incapacitation.” Her rat flailed its paws, then slumped lifelessly against the side of its cage. “By using precision psychokinesis, one is able to apply pressure to the rat’s carotid artery. It is rendered unconscious in seconds.
“Keith, it’s your turn.” The sheet in front of Keith suddenly flew off its cage. “Release the pressure after the rat is incapacitated or else you will kill it.”
“Got it,” Keith said. He focused on his rat’s neck.
Its head fell off and rolled out of the cage.
“Don’t worry,” reassured the Instructor. “We have more rats.”
