Mae: Well, okay, think about this, the Earth is constantly spinning. This is what makes night and day happen right?
Jeremy: Well, duh.
Mae: Well, the Earth’s circumference is about 40,000 kilometers and a day is just under 24 hours long. So that means that at the equator, the Earth is moving at 1,667 kilometers per hour, so like 1,000 miles an hour.
Jeremy: All right. So, we do some math and we limit our windows so that we don’t end up in the middle of the Pacific.
Mae: Also, the Earth is going around the sun. That’s like 940 million kilometers over 365 days, so that’s like 2.5 million kilometers per day, over 24 hours a day, so that’s basically 100,000 kilometers per hour, so like 67,000 mph.
Jeremy: Okay, so, we have a time of day and time of year window.
Mae: Also, our solar system goes around the middle of the galaxy.
Jeremy: Please don’t show your math this time.
Mae: About 500,000 miles per hour.
Jeremy: Well shit. Anything else?
Mae: Our galaxy is moving toward the Great Attractor.
Jeremy: How fucking fast?
Mae: 620 miles-
Jeremy: Okay-
Mae: -per second.
Jeremy: Oh fuck.
Mae: Yeah.
Jeremy: Okay, so basically, I’m hearing that in order to use this time machine, we need to put it in a space ship.
Mae: Yeah. But we’ll end up really far away and have to navigate back to Earth with CBR.
Jeremy: Man, I just wanted to see a stegosaurus.
