Ken used the cold metal handrail as he journeyed down the sterile white corridor. He’d spent the last three days almost entirely in his room, leaving only to eat and for bathroom breaks. He made a mental note to shower today, brush his teeth, and maybe even shave. But, he thought, might as well exercise first.
Ken reached an arm behind himself to feel his backpack. The water bottles were still neatly held in its side pockets, and he felt the odd shapes he’d 3d printed last week. Was it last week? It felt like long ago, but also not.
Ten minutes later, Ken found himself at the rotunda. It looked bigger than it had before. He hooked his bag against the wall with a carabiner. He grabbed a water bottles and took a sip before opening the backpack. There, he saw the freshly made apparatuses, ten in total. Some were shaped liked an upper-case L, others were like an X or a V. One reminded Ken of the Mercedes logo, he saw once in an ancient video from the 20th century. He’d try an X-shape first. He tossed it with a flick of the wrist, and watched the shape as it curved through the air before reflecting off the rotunda wall.
Seven hours later, Shelby floated into the rotunda, and said to Ken, “I thought you were going to shower today.”
“I will.” Ken then pointed a finger up to the four boomerangs making continuous circles in the air.
