The massive android shot its eye-beams at the team leader. The leader was able to dodge at the last possible moment.
And, because his reaction was so perfectly timed, he received a boost of intrinsic energy, whatever that was.
The team surrounded the android and attacked all at once. The beefy one charged the automaton, but was caught by the neck. As he was lifted by his throat, his teammates pounced. The agile one fired projectiles at the android’s back, the team leader attacked its legs, and the female one flicked her whip at its head.
By the time the android’s choking animation was complete, it was nearly out of HP. The beefy one did his special recovery attack and the automaton was defeated. “Well, that took an hour,” said the leader.
Then, nothing happened. The translucent orange grid remained over the door to the next room.
“There any bots left?”
“There’s a drone here stuck in the corner,” said the agile one.
“I’ll take care of it,” said the beefy one, throwing a rock at it. The drone crashed to the ground, exploding.
The door remained blocked.
“Shit,” said the leader. “Any of you guys have some sort of detective vision?”
“I have insight-goggles,” the female one said.
“Sure, whatever.”
She put on her insight-goggles and scanned the room. Behind a wall, a humanoid shape was glowing red. “An enemy spawned inside this wall; we’ll have to restart the checkpoint.”
“Shit. I gotta pick my kid up from camp.”
