The intergalactic bounty hunter landed on the serene alien world. By amazing coincidence, its gravity and atmosphere weren’t significantly different than that of her own planet. She pulled out her filth-covered tablet, and saw the picture of her quarry. She brushed a few specks of grime off of the screen to get a better look at his hairy face.
“Bok Elwyn,” the bounty hunter read aloud. “Wanted on untold counts of larceny and reckless endangerment.” She paused. “Only one meter tall? A little fella, then.”
The hunter folded the tablet back into her belt pack, and started walking toward the city. Strange, she thought, I should be seeing something by now. She double-checked her map. It told her that the city was less than ten meters away. She zoomed in on the details. The map showed dozens of buildings, and a population of three-hundred and six.
She grabbed her spectra-goggles and studied the horizon. Examining the full electromagnetic spectrum didn’t reveal any buildings, any cities, anything like that. She walked to and fro, searching for any signs of civilization.
She took another step forward and heard a tiny crunch. The bounty hunter recoiled, worried that she might have sprung a trap. She listened carefully, and heard a minuscule scream. She looked down and saw small blips showing on the infrared.
The bounty hunter pulled out her tablet again and wiped the screen. One of the specks of suspected dirt did not come clean. “Oh,” she said. “Point one meters tall.”
