Conrad carefully pulled the towels out of his dryer, attempting to keep the dryer balls inside. Five out of six still in there, not bad, he thought.
Conrad found the sixth ball as he folded the third towel, and tossed it back into the dryer. He looked inside. The dryer balls seemed to have formed a crude arrow pointing to the back of the machine. He slammed the door shut.
Later that same day, Conrad filled his red pot with water and placed it on the stove. He opened his freezer and pulled out a half bag of tortellini which was hastily resealed with a twist, tuck and scotch tape. He emptied its contents into the now boiling water, and watched as the cooked tortellini began to float. The tortellini formed a crude arrow pointing to the left.
That’s weird, he thought.
Conrad talked to his friend Bill who used to live in this same apartment and who was convinced that this wasn’t a mere coincidence. Bill gave Conrad a plan.
Conrad reached into the coffee mug that he kept on his bedside table and grabbed out a handful of pennies. He walked into his living room, and dropped the pennies on the floor.
Conrad watched as they spun and rolled along the floor, eventually forming a third crude arrow.
Conrad drew an imaginary line from each arrow, and went to the spot where all three intersected.
And that is where he found the missing button to his winter coat.
